What is the T2-MI signal and how to analyze it
T2-MI is a communication interface embedded into the second-generation digital terrestrial television signals (DVB-T2) received by the modulators that carry out the broadcasting itself. In fact, T2-MI stands for T2 Modulator Interface. The T2-MI signal provides the broadcasting parameters and contents to the modulators.
The telecommunications networks technical managers use the T2-MI information to ensure the proper deployment of the digital terrestrial television networks.

PROMAX TV analyzers can work with T2-MI signals
The TV and Spectrum Analyzers RANGER Neo 3 and RANGER Neo 4 from PROMAX are able to receive and analyze the T2-MI signals coming from any source: ASI-TS, IPTV multicast and even from RF.

Block diagram of a typical DVB-T2 chain
T2-MI is exclusively used in the link between the T2 Gateway output and the DVB-T2 modulators input, it is and transported via either TS-ASI or IP.
The T2-MI signal includes, in addition to the DVB-T2 signal itself, synchronization data for SFN (single frequency) networks, the adjustments relative to each PLP (Physical Layer Pipe) and the BBFRAMES (baseband frames) that conform each PLP and contain the Transport Streams to be modulated.
You can browse the Internet for the ETSI TS 102 773 specification, which is a free to use technical data.
Tools to work with T2-MI data
¿What can do with the T2-MI signal the PROMAX RANGER Neo 3 and RANGER Neo 4 TV Analyzers?
- Recording the TS which contain the T2-MI signal from the RF, IPTV or ASI-TS signal source.
- Playing out through the ASI-TS output the file stored in memory.
- Analyzing the Transport Stream carrying the T2-MI signals.
- Analyzing and checking all the fields defined in the T2-MI signal (L1 signalling, DVB-T2 timestamp, each one of the PLP and BB frames, etc).

Complete analysis of the T2-MI signal with a RANGER Neo TV analyzer
RANGER Neo 3 and RANGER Neo 4 analyzers can as well select a specific PLP and activate the Transport Stream analyzer to analyze the TS carried within. In the example below we are receiving via an IP Multicast stream a T2-MI signal, from which we are extracting and analyzing the PSI/SI tables from the Transport Stream carried in PLPID = 17..
